European football is finally back on a regular basis and the 2018/19 Ligue 1 season has started in style. Sunday afternoon sees Marseille travel to Monaco to face last term’s 2nd-placed side.
Marseille won’t take confidence from their recent record with Monaco ahead of Sunday’s clash as they haven’t beaten the title challengers in their last six attempts. Monaco have won four of the last five meetings and all five of the last home fixtures against Marseille. It’s a game that often produces goals with over 2.5 goals in each of the last seven. Both teams have scored in six of those seven.
The hosts need to improve rapidly this season if they are to challenge at the top of the table. They are without Stevan Jovetic, Aleksandr Golovin and Andrea Raggi for the clash. Latest matches: AS Monaco

The visitors can’t afford to lose another match this early in the campaign but they’ll be right up against it in Monaco. Steve Mandanda and Rolando are unavailable for the clash. Latest matches: Olympique Marseille

Recent meetings between these sides have seen entertainment and goals and I expect this one to be no different. Both teams are expected to score on Sunday and despite Monaco’s struggles in front of goal, they should come away with all three points. It really is a result that could either way but backing a home win is smart.
