After five games of the 2018/19 Ligue 1 season, it returns this week and on Friday, Monaco host Nimes desperately looking for a win. Last year’s runners-up have started awfully and sit 15th while their upcoming opponents are in 8th.
Due to Nimes spending a lot of time in the lower divisions, the head-to-head record isn’t full of matches and they’ve never actually met in Ligue 1. The last meeting was in the Coupe de France where Monaco ran out 2-0 winners in 2015 and the Champions League side have won two of the other three games, one of which on penalties. Both teams have scored in two of the games and none of them have produced over 2.5 goals.
Monaco’s poor start to the season hasn’t been helped by a number of injuries and they’ve got three players out for Friday and four doubtful. Danijel Subasic and Rony Lopes are among the confirmed injured while Aleksandr Golovin and Stevan Jovetic remain a doubt. Latest matches: AS Monaco

Last season, this would’ve been considered a comfortable Monaco win but after contrasting starts to the season, Nimes certainly have a chance to nick a point despite still being underdogs. Monaco fans will be expecting three points on Friday night and I think they are right to expect that but I think the winning margin will be slim.
