The 2017/18 Ligue 1 season is in full flow now and with some big surprises already, there is only going to be more. Nice, who qualified for this season’s Champions League, are just above the relegation zone while Nantes, under the guidance of Claudio Ranieri, are challenging for Europe. Two sides who are marooned around mid-table, Rennes and Bordeaux, face off on Friday as they both look to build on decent starts. Rennes are currently 13th while Bordeaux are moving up the table in 8th.
Rennes have really struggled to beat Bordeaux in the last few years and you would have to go back to the end of 2011 to find the last time they beat them. Four of the last five meetings between the sides have ended as draws and that was the outcome in the last meeting in February. Jeremy Menez put Bordeaux ahead before Yoann Gourcuff equalised. Both teams have scored eight of the last nine fixtures.
A win for Rennes would take them into the top half of Ligue 1 but it won’t be easy for the hosts against a strong side. They are without Ismaila Sarr for the clash but other than that, they are injury-free.

Three points for Bordeaux would put them sixth ahead of Saturday’s fixtures and with just two injury doubts, they have a great chance of doing so. Gaetan Laborde is ruled out Youssouf Sabaly is a doubt for the match. Latest matches: FC Girondins Bordeaux

With Rennes playing at home, it makes the game very tough to call. On paper, it looks like a win for Bordeaux is most likely but with three consecutive wins for Rennes, they will be desperate to go four in a row. Bordeaux should still edge the game with a much stronger side, however, their recent form could let them down against a tireless Rennes side. It looks as though it’ll be an open game and both teams are expected to score.
